History Of Botany

Just as the college celebrated its centenary in 1926, The Department of Botany was thriving as a mature teenager at the age of 30. Man power, as scientists, researchers, teachers, government officials, administrators, bankers, etc. were contributed by the passed-out students of this department in Bangladesh. At present the department is being managed by some qualified faculty members. Students, used to learn structure, function, and role of plants such as microbes, algae, bryophytes, pteridophytes, fungi and pathogens, and angiosperms, gymnosperms, ethno-, paleo-, and economic botany. Professor Niamul Haque, a well-known and famous Botanist and Author of many related books has been appointed as the Chairman of the Department of Botany since 1^st January 2020 till now.

During the last 27 years of tenure, promotion and dissemination of botanical knowledge were pioneered by the scholars of the Department of Botany at various times. It is worth to be mentioned here the names of a few: Md Idris Howlader, renowned Botanist and author of different books related to botany course under National University; Professor Md. Bellal Hossain, acting Principle of Nagarpur Govt. College, Tangail; and Professor Margia Begum, retired Professor and Head of the Department. From now on, new scientific thoughts of botanical orientation must be added to the curricular and research activities of the department with the help of its most brilliant new generation teachers and students.
